Born Unicorn – July 2019 Birchbox Review

Hello everyone, welcome back I hope you’re all having a great week. I’m very excited about this post as it the first Birchbox review in a while. I took a break earlier on in the year from my Birchbox subscription but when I got a sneaky look at this months box and what I could get I just had to give it a try.

Floss Beauty – My Everyday Eyeshadow in Tokyo or Maui:

Claims: Universally flattering, these buttery shimmer shadows glide on smoothly and blend with ease. Buff over your eyelids for a wash of soft, glowing, long-lasting colour, or build to go bold. RRP £12.50

My Thoughts: I had the choice between Tokyo (champagne) or Maui (soft coral) with this box. I decided to go for Maui as I do love a good pop of colour on my eyes. This is one of the full-size items I got this month, the packaging is fairly simple but cute. I’ve never used this brand before so wasn’t sure what to expect as far as quality and pigment goes, I wouldn’t normally spend this much on just one shadow so I was hoping for something good.

It’s a summer shade that’s perfect if you don’t have hours to spend on your makeup in the morning. I love how pretty this shade is and its one that I’ve used pretty much every day for a few weeks now. A great everyday colour that applies easily with either a brush or your finger. Perfect for anyone that leads a busy life but wants a nice hint of colour. It’s very much a buildable colour just sweep on for a hint of shimmer or you can build up that coral colour for stunning summer eyes. The formula is nice, very easy and buttery to blend in and doesn’t settle in the crease!

Marcelle – Xtension Plus Curl Mascara:

Claims: Using a uniquely curved and tapered brush that hugs the natural shape of your eye, the blacker- than-black mascara grabs hold of every lash to define, lengthen and curl. The buildable formula stays in place all day whilst never clumping or flaking. Shimmy the brush back and forth to grip every last from root to tip. RRP £14.50

My Thoughts: I am so pleased I received this in my box, I love trying out new mascara’s and I haven’t tried one from Marcelle before. I love the curved brush it helped lengthen my lashes. It’s not a formula that creates all-out volume but is perfect for day to day use. I like how long and pretty my lashes look with the mascara on and there was no fallout all day, no smudging and came off without too much of a struggle.

For a mascara of this quality i think the price is pretty resonable and it’s one that going on my list to buy. No clumping, just perfectly pretty lashes that last all day.

This Works – Deep Pillow Spray:

Claims: This calming spritz is infused with a cocktail of 100% pure essential oils, including lavender, chamomile, vetivert and patchouli. It’s clinically proven to help you sleep quicker than usual and wake up feeling refreshed. Spritz a fine mist over your pillow and breathe in deeply – you’ll soon be in the land of the nod. In a study 97% slept better, 87% fell asleep faster and 98% felt more refreshed in the morning after using the Deep Sleep Pillow Spray. RRP £18.

My Thoughts: Wow oh wow! I offically love this spray , for a long time now I’ve struggled with sleep. Getting to sleep and staying asleep has long since been a battle of mine. I’ve tried numerous sleep sprays and tablets and all sorts of things to help with sleep and nothings really worked that well.

I wasn’t expecting much from this if I’m honest but I’m so pleased it proved me wrong. I can’t explain how it works but it worked. All it took was 3 sprays on my pillow then, I settled down for sleep and that the last thing I remembered until morning. I normally toss and turn, plus my heads full of every little issue that might be in my life, not when I use the spray though, nothing but deep sleep. Going to try this with Tilly next and I’ll be buying the full-size when my sample runs out.

Percy & Reed – Oh So Smooth Fizz Fixer:

Claims: Using coconut oil, moringa oil and sweet almond seedcake, this silicone-free flyaway taming spray conditions, smooths frizz, kills static and enhances shine in just one simple step. Shake well and spritz onto a hairbrush (or your hands if your hairs curly) then brush through. RRP £15.

My Thoughts: I have pretty frizzy hair, if I’ve curled it and I make an attempt to brush it I end up looking like Monica on holiday! I don’t need humidity to gain a bush on my head! I’ve used this a few times now on straight and curly hair and it does get rid of frizz and is leaves my hair very smooth and manageable. Doesn’t leave it sticky or tacky but the downside was my hair felt a little greasier than normal the next day.

Perfect if your a busy mum on the go and you don’t have time to style your hair every day, just a quick brush and spray and off you go!

Luxie Beauty – 205 Dreamcatcher Tapered Blending Brush:

Claims: This fluffy blending brush is the ideal companion to powder and cream eyeshadows alike. Use it across your lid, in the crease, or at the corners of your eye to perfect your look. It’s soft synthetic bristles give a flawless finish with minimal effort. RRP £11

  • Vegan
  • Cruelty free
  • Hypoallergenic

My Thoughts: Very nice brush, the bristles were extremely soft and blended very well. I’ve only tried this brush so far with powder shadows and it definitely does what it says on the tin. Very comfortable to hold and I love the colour, will definitely try some more Luxie brushes in the future.

My extra treat this month…….

For restarting my subscription last month I got this The Beauty Crop – Dawngazing palette. A gorgeous palette that features 12 buttery and really highly-pigmented shades. Ranging in 3 different formulas matte, metallic and long lasting glitter. (It really is long lasting, Matilda got it all over her face and it lasted till bath time!) Some of the thing I love about this palette are:

  • No parabens
  • talc free
  • no mineral oils
  • vegan
  • cruelty free

All the pink and purple shades are stunning and I’ve loved creating some really pretty looks with them. All the shades are very easy to use, blend very well and creates a vast array of looks.

Final Thoughts…

This has hands down been one of my favourite Birchbox boxes and I’m so pleased I rejoined with this box. I’m a busy working mama so anything that helps me to feel and look good is a winner for me. The products ticked all the boxes, sleep, hair and beauty, the trio things I normally spend very little time on but now what time I do get is a little more successful.

Let me know what you think if you received this box or have tried any of the products.
